The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate advocates the safe transport of dangerous goods by sea and fair competition within the shipping sector. They monitor regulations concerned with loading, unloading and transport. In addition, the Inspectorate grants exemptions – for explosive materials, for example – and permission for combined loading or non-standard packaging.
The Inspectorate is in continual consultation with sister organisations in other countries. In the Netherlands, the Inspectorate works closely with the customs department, municipal harbour services, the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment, the national Police Agency (KLPD), the Directorate-General for Public Works and Water Management, and the Health and Safety Inspectorate.
Reporting incidents and accidents
