Foreign medical certificates

Seafarer medical certificates issued by an EU-member state or by Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, the United Kingdom and Switzerland may be submitted at the application for a Dutch endorsement or when embarking a ship registered in the Netherlands. From October 2019 on seafarer medical certificates issued by Australia, Canada, China, India, New Zealand, Ukraine, United Kingdom and South Africa may also be submitted.

Mutual recognition of seafarer medical certificates

The United Kingdom, Norway and The Netherlands agreed upon mutual recognition of seafarer medical certificates. This mutual recognition is based on common standards for training of approved doctors, medical examination of seafarers and the issue of seafarer medical certificates in accordance with the STCW and the MLC 2006. Approved doctors of The United Kingdom, Norway and The Netherlands are bound to the legislation of their own country and to the mutual agreement of above mentioned countries.
