Transport companies and drivers of goods vehicles, public transport buses and coaches must comply with European Union (EU) rules on driving and rest periods. In the Netherlands, the EU rules have been incorporated into the Arbeidstijdenbesluit vervoer (Working Hours Decree for Transport). The provisions on driving and rest periods set out in the regulation apply to journeys within the EU. Different rules apply to taxi drivers.
