If you want to import or export fireworks to or from the Netherlands, or supply or store fireworks in the Netherlands, you must notify the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) in advance.

Requirements

You must notify the ILT in the following situations:

  • You import fireworks into the Netherlands.
  • You export fireworks out of the Netherlands.
  • You store fireworks at a location in the Netherlands.
  • You supply professional fireworks to a third party established in the Netherlands.

When to notify the ILT

If you import or export fireworks, you must submit the notification at least 48 hours before the fireworks cross the border into or out of the Netherlands.

Please note: in the last 2 weeks of the year, a 24-hour period applies so that shops can receive their stock of fireworks earlier.

If you have any professional fireworks left over after an event and you are exporting them again, you must notify the ILT within 1 working day of crossing the border.

If you supply or store fireworks, you must notify the ILT as soon as you sell or supply the fireworks to a third party established in the Netherlands.

Required attachments

When submitting your notification, you must upload an itemised list of the fireworks. Use the sample Excel file to create a list of fireworks items (in Dutch). This allows you to upload multiple items at once. You can also create your own version.

Submitting a notification

Submit your notification using the online form Melding vuurwerk import, export, terbeschikkingstelling en opslag.

Go to the form (in Dutch)

After submitting your notification

After your notification, you will receive a confirmation email from the ILT. This email contains a link to your notification, in case you want to edit it.

The ILT uses your notification to plan fireworks inspections.
