If you hold an ICAO helicopter pilot licence you can convert it into or have it validated as equivalent to an EASA helicopter pilot licence. You can apply for a conversion or request validation of your helicopter pilot licence in the Netherlands through the Civil Aviation Authority the Netherlands (CAA NL), part of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT).

Required attachments

You must upload several attachments with your online application. Please gather the following PDF documents before starting your application:

  • A copy of your theory exam results for Air law and Human performance.

  • A copy of your Language Proficiency Endorsement (LPE).
    Valid on your current licence, or a copy of the LPE certificate.

    Please note: If you obtained the LPE certificate from a non-Netherlands EASA-approved Language Assessment Body (LBA), also attach:

    • Proof of approval of the EASA-approved LBA, LBA approval.

  • A copy of the results of your PPL skill test.

  • Copies of your logbook showing that you have at least 100 flight hours as a pilot.
    Please note: Copy all relevant flights and the summary pages. The copies must show that you meet the requirements for admission and issue. Sign all completed pages of your logbook before copying them.

For conversion or validation of an ICAO pilot licence

Apply for the conversion or request the validation of an ICAO pilot licence using the online form Application for ICAO to EASA licence conversion or validation.

Please note: you must enter your name and place of birth exactly as shown in your passport or other valid form of identification.

For acceptance of an ATPL(H)

Apply for the acceptance of an ATPL(H) using the online form Application for a pilot licence for aeroplanes (A), helicopters (H), balloons (B) and gyroplanes (GS). In the form, select: First issue of a pilot licence Aircraft (A) and Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).

Please note: you must enter your name and place of birth exactly as shown in your passport or other valid form of identification.

Costs

  • The conversion or validation of an ICAO or FAA pilot licence costs €81.
  • The acceptance of an ATPL(A) costs €698.

These amounts are legally determined in the Regeling tarieven transportsectoren (Transportation Sectors Tariffs Scheme, in Dutch).

If your employer is covering the costs you can indicate this during the application process. 

After submitting your application

  1. You will receive an automatic confirmation email from the ILT including the registration number of your application.
  2. You will receive a payment request by email. Please pay within 4 weeks of the date on the payment request.
  3. If any information is missing, CAA NL will ask you to provide additional details.
  4. Once your application is complete and paid, CAA NL will begin processing your application. Please take into account that the processing time may be longer than you are used to. Read more about the expected processing time.
  5. You will receive the decision by email. If CAA NL approves your application, you will receive a new licence.
