If your helicopter pilot licence ratings and remarks have expired, you can apply to renew them. You can apply for renewal of your ratings and remarks in the Netherlands through the Civil Aviation Authority the Netherlands (CAA NL), part of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT).

If your examiner is authorised to do so, they can renewthe ratings themselves by endorsing your licence. Your examiner will then write the new expiry date on the back of your licence and send all the necessary documents to CAA NL. If your examiner does not do this, you will need to submit an application for renewal.

Costs

An application to renew pilot licence rating(s) and remark(s) costs €141. This amount is legally determined in the Regeling tarieven transportsectoren (Transportation Sectors Tariffs Scheme, in Dutch). You do not have to pay VAT on this amount.

If your employer is covering the costs you can indicate this during the application process.

After submitting your application

  1. You will receive an automatic confirmation email from the ILT. This email also includes a registration number, which you can use if you have any questions for the Civil Aviation Authority the Netherlands (CAA NL).
  2. You will receive a payment request by email. Please pay within 4 weeks of the date of the payment request.
  3. If any information is missing, CAA NL will ask you to provide additional details.
  4. Once your application is complete and paid, CAA NL will begin processing your application. Please take into account that the processing time may be longer than you are used to. Read more about the expected processing time.
  5. You will receive the decision by email. You will also receive the invoice for your records. If CAA NL approves your application, you will receive a new licence. The new expiry date of the rating or ratings is shown on the front of the licence.

If you disagree with the decision, you can submit an objection.

Validity

A class or type rating is valid for 1 year. An exception applies to class ratings for single-pilot single-engine aircraft. These class ratings are valid for 2 years.
