Upon receiving your Sailplane Pilot Licence (SPL), you can add additional ratings such as aerotow launch, winch launch, Touring Motor Glider (TMG), aerobatics or instruction. In the Netherlands, you can apply for an amendment of your SPL at the Civil Aviation Authority the Netherlands (CAA NL), part of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT).

Requirements

Read the requirements for amending your SPL in Part-SFCL.

For this application, you need to upload attachments. Please collect the following documents before starting your application:

  • A copy of your medical certificate, at least LAPL class.
  • Acopy of your Course Completion Certificate.
  • Copies of relevant pages of your logbook demonstrating that you meet the requirements in Part-SFCL, such as signatures for launch methods, basic aerobatic, advanced aerobatic or cloud flying.
    • To meet the recency requirements: logbook copies from the past 24 months.
    • For instructor ratings: logbook copies from the past 36 months.

Please note: Sign all full pages of your logbook before copying them.

Start application (in Dutch)

Please note: when reissuing the SPL in case of an amendment, CAA NL only carries over valid ratings and certificates to the new licence. You must upload relevant copies of your logbook with the online form that show you meet the recency requirements.

Costs

Applying for an SPL amendment costs €78. This fee is set out in the Regeling tarieven transportsectoren (Transportation Sectors Tariffs Scheme, in Dutch).

After your application

  1. You will receive an automatic confirmation email from the ILT including the registration number of your application.
  2. You will receive a payment request by email. Please pay the amount as soon as possible, but no later than 4 weeks from the date of the payment request.
  3. If any information is missing, the ILT will ask you to provide additional details.
  4. Once your application is complete and paid, CAA NL will process it. The maximum processing time is 56 days. Applicants usually receive a response within 2 weeks. When demand is high, processing may take longer.
  5. You will receive a decision. If CAA NL approves your application, your new SPL will be sent to you by post.
  6. If you disagree with the decision, you can submit an objection.

Validity period

Different ratings have different recency requirements. These are specified in the EASA regulations in Part-SFCL.
