Passenger ships are vessels used for the commercial transport of passengers on inland waters, at sea, or both.
Examples of vessels classified as passenger ships in the Netherlands include:
- Cruise ships and river cruise ships
- Sailing charter vessels
- Historical passenger sailing ships, the bruine vloot (brown fleet)
- Canal-cruise boats
- Recreational fishing vessels
- Ferries and cable ferries
- Water taxis
- Cabin vessels
Recreational vessels carrying up to 12 non-paying passengers fall under pleasure craft regulations.
