Training approval for merchant shipping, passenger shipping, and fisheries
In the Netherlands, training courses for seafarers must comply with statutory requirements laid out by the Government of the Netherlands. The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) approves and oversees these maritieme trainingen (maritime training courses).

The ILT oversees maritime training courses it has approved on behalf of the ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat, IenW (Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management).
The ministerie van Onderwijs, Cultuur en Wetenschap, OCW (Ministry of Education, Culture and Science) is responsible for maritime education. The Inspectie van het Onderwijs (Inspectorate of Education) oversees this education.
The ministerie van Economische Zaken, EZ (Ministry of Economic Affairs) is responsible for training in operating radio equipment on board seagoing vessels. The Rijksinspectie Digitale Infrastructuur (Dutch Authority for Digital Infrastructure) monitors this training.
