National and international rules
Those responsible for seagoing vessels, cargoes and terminals must comply with the following rules:
- Sea transport of gases in bulk under a pressure of up to and including 2.8 bar falls under the International Code of the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
- Sea transport of liquefied gases in bulk falls under both the IGC Code and the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships carrying Dangerous Chemicals in Bulk (IBC Code).
- For dangerous cargoes, the ship master must report the vessel’s arrival at a port in the Netherlands to the port authority in advance.
If you are transporting a gas not listed in the IGC Code or the IBC Code, please contact the ILT.
