Minimum information needed

The documentation needs to contain at least the following information:

  • the correct transport name
  • class and sub-class (if applicable)
  • UN number, preceded by the letters UN
  • packaging group (if applicable)
  • number and type of package and total number of dangerous goods

Additional requirements

Furthermore, chapter 5.4 of the IMDG Code stipulates a number of additional requirements concerning the transport documents, which refer to the following:

  • waste materials
  • heated goods
  • infectious goods
  • radioactive goods
  • limited quantities
  • salvage packaging

In the documentation, dangerous goods are indicated before non-dangerous goods. The dated and signed consignor declaration indicates that all regulations have been followed.
Dangerous goods in freight containers or vehicles should be accompanied by a container/vehicle load certificate, which must state that the goods have been inspected, loaded and secured in a suitable means of transport in accordance with regulations.
