Sphere of action

The inspectorate's sphere of action comprises:

  • high-risk companies;
  • high-risk materials and products;
  • water, soil and construction;
  • rail and road traffic;
  • shipping;
  • aviation.

The regulation concerned, focuses primarily on companies, organisations and government bodies which operate across the entire sector. It imposes sustainability and safety requirements on operational management, the admission, transport, production, trade, the application  and processing of (waste) materials and products, on the quality of the water and soil, on spatial planning and on the fire and constructional safety of buildings and facilities. The regulation also imposes requirements on the rail and aviation infrastructure, on the condition of vehicles, vessels and aircraft and on drivers and crew members. In the case of water, soil and buildings – the physical environment – the inspectorate also upholds the compliance requirements imposed on other government bodies.
