Applying for the first issue of an EASA AML for maintenance technicians
If you want to carry out aircraft maintenance in the Netherlands, or supervise other aircraft maintenance technicians, you must have an Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML). You can apply for an EASA AML with the Civil Aviation Authority the Netherlands (CAA NL), part of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT).

Requirements
To apply for an EASA AML, you must meet the following requirements:
- You are at least 18 years old.
- You have completed the appropriate training.
- You have the required work experience.
- You have a connection to the Netherlands. This means you meet at least 1 of the following requirements:
- You hold Dutch citizenship.
- You currently live or work in the Netherlands, or you will be in the near future.
- You work for an EASA-approved maintenance organisation established in the Netherlands, or you will be in the near future.
- You are following a training course or programme that is approved in the Netherlands but not recognised by other EASA countries, or you will be in the near future.
How to apply
Apply for an EASA AML using the online form Application for an EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML) (EASA Form 19). In the form, select: First issue of an EASA AML.
Please note: you must enter your name and place of birth exactly as shown in your passport or other valid form of identification.
Costs
The first issue of an EASA AML costs €184. This amount is legally determined in the Regeling tarieven transportsectoren (Transportation Sectors Tariffs Scheme, in Dutch). You do not have to pay VAT on this amount.
Please note: If your employer is covering the costs you can indicate this during the application process. Please request authorisation from your employer for this and upload the completed and signed authorisation form as an attachment to your application.
After your application
- You will receive an automatic email confirming that CAA NL has received your application.
- You will receive a payment request by email. Please pay within 4 weeks of the date on the payment request.
- If any information is missing, CAA NL will ask you to provide additional details.
- Once your application is complete and the fee has been paid, CAA NL will begin processing your application.
- CAA NL will take approximately 40 working days to process your application.
- You will receive the decision by email, along with an acknowledgement of payment for your records. If your application is approved, you will receive your licence. You can collect it in person by appointment at:

Validity
An EASA AML is valid for 5 years from the date of issue or amendment. The expiry date is shown in box XIII of the EASA AML. If your licence is due to expire within 3 months, you can apply for an AML renewal.
