Transferring an EASA AML from another country to the Netherlands
If you hold an EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML) issued by another European Union (EU) Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland, you can transfer this licence to the Netherlands. You must apply for a licence transfer through the Civil Aviation Authority the Netherlands (CAA NL), part of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT).

Requirements
You can only transfer an EASA AML to the Netherlands if you have a connection with the Netherlands. You must meet at least 1 of the following requirements:
- You hold Dutch citizenship.
- You live or work in the Netherlands, or you will be in the near future.
- You work for an EASA-approved maintenance organisation established in the Netherlands, or you will be in the near future.
- You are following a training course or programme that is approved in the Netherlands but not recognised by other EASA Member States, or you will be in the near future.
Please note: you must check with the civil aviation authority that issued your current EASA AML whether additional conditions apply for transferring your licence.
Required attachments
You must upload several attachments with your online application. To transfer your EASA AML to the Netherlands, you will need:
- A copy of your passport or valid form of identification from an EU Member State, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland.
- A copy of your EASA AML issued by another European Union (EU) Member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
- Proof of your connection to the Netherlands, such as an extract from the Basisregistratie Personen, BRP (Personal Records Database).
How to apply
Please note: gather all attachments before completing the online form.
Apply for an EASA AML using the online form Application for an EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence (AML) (EASA Form 19). In the form, select: Licence transfer of an EASA AML.
Please note: you must enter your name and place of birth exactly as shown in your passport or other valid form of identification.
The application process takes approximately 3 months. First, the civil aviation authority that issued your current licence will revoke your existing EASA AML. After that, CAA NL will send you a new EASA AML issued in the Netherlands. Your existing records will be fully transferred. Please note that CAA NL is dependent on the civil aviation authority that issued your current licence to complete the transfer of your records.
Please note: once your current civil aviation authority withdraws your EASA AML, it will temporarily no longer be valid. You are not permitted to carry out aircraft maintenance during this period.
Costs
Applying to transfer an EASA AML from another country to the Netherlands costs €184. This amount is legally determined in the Regeling tarieven transportsectoren (Transportation Sectors Tariffs Scheme, in Dutch). You do not have to pay VAT on this amount.
Please note: If your employer is covering the costs you can indicate this during the application process. Please request authorisation from your employer for this and upload the completed and signed authorisation form as an attachment to your application.
After your application
- You will receive an automatic email confirming that CAA NL has received your application.
- You will receive a payment request by email. Please pay within 4 weeks of the date on the payment request.
- If any information is missing, CAA NL will ask you to provide additional details.
- Once your application is complete and the fee has been paid, CAA NL will begin processing your application.
- CAA NL will take approximately 40 working days to process your application.
- You will receive the decision by email, along with an acknowledgement of payment for your records. If your application is approved, you will receive your licence. You can collect it in person by appointment at:
Kingsfordweg 1
1043 GN Amsterdam
the Netherlands
The email will include instructions on how to make an appointment.
Validity
An EASA AML is valid for 5 years from the date of issue or amendment. The expiry date is shown in box XIII of the EASA AML. If your licence is due to expire within 3 months, you can apply for an AML renewal.
