Changes that invalidate your Certificate of Registry
A Certificate of Registry issued in the Netherlands is valid indefinitely, unless 1 or more of the details recorded changes. Examples of such changes include:
- The owner of the vessel. This is the person or company listed under ‘owned by’ on the Certificate of Registry.
- The address or chosen domicile of the owner of the vessel.
- The tonnage of the vessel.
- The vessel’s name. Read what to do if you are changing the name of a seagoing vessel.
- The engine – for instance, if the vessel is fitted with a different engine or an additional engine.
- The authority through which the vessel was registered as property in the public registers.
Reporting changes and applying for a new Certificate of Registry
If any of the details listed in your current Certificate of Registry issued in the Netherlands change, first report the change to Kadaster (the Netherlands’ Cadastre, Land Registry and Mapping Agency) to update the registration of property. You must then apply for a new Certificate of Registry through the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT).
Please note: if you hold a bareboat-in-zeebrief (bareboat-in Certificate of Registry), you must report the changes by email to registratie@ilent.nl. You must then apply for a new bareboat-in Certificate of Registry.
Returning the old Certificate of Registry
Once you have received your new Certificate of Registry or bareboat-in Certificate of Registry, you must return the old Certificate of Registry to the ILT by post to the following address:
Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT)
Westelijke Parallelweg 4
3331 EW Zwijndrecht
the Netherlands
Costs
In 2025, the fee for updating details on a Certificate of Registry is €215. This is the standard fee for issuing a new Certificate of Registry, as the ILT must replace the certificate. This fee is set out in the Regeling tarieven transportsectoren (Transportation Sectors Tariffs Scheme, in Dutch) and may change annually.
Applying for a new CSR
If there is a change in ownership or management of your vessel that is registered in the Netherlands and your vessel has a Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR), you must apply for a new CSR with the ILT using the online form Application Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR). The CSR provides the administrative history of the vessel, including details of ownership and management.
